Vinegar: An Effective, Inexpensive Way to Clean CPAP TubesVinegar: An Effective, Inexpensive Way to Clean CPAP Tubes
Vinegar is an inexpensive disinfectant and deodorizer. It can be used to naturally clean many surfaces, from cleaning bathroom surfaces to washing windows to using it as a natural fabric softener. For those who have sleep apnea, vinegar is also highly useful when cleaning your CPAP tubing. The natural acid will disinfect and deodorize the hoses, without leaving traces of harmful chemicals that may be breathed into the body. Ideally, the tubing should be cleaned everyday, because particles from the air can gather within the tubes and mold can accumulate in certain conditions.
To clean your CPAP tubing with vinegar:
1. Wash the tubing with warm, soapy water and rinse.
2. Mix a 50/50 solution of white distilled vinegar and water.
3. Let the tubing soak in the solution for 15 to 30 minutes and rinse well.
4. Let the pieces air dry, and then cover them with a clean towel until the equipment is reassembled.
